Burning is Hot Issue

Cars on fire is fortunate,not a common sight, because a car on fire is potentially one of  most dangerous driving emergencies. American Automobile Association and the National Fire Protection Association , has 266,000 cars fires reported, Of those fires, 75 percent of them were caused by poor maintenance, rather than accidents according to their statistic reported in 2004.

Prevention is the best defense
The best preventive measure you can take is to get your car serviced regularly according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule. Ask for a review of the fuel and electrical systems, these are possible areas where car fires origin originated.

If your car is on fire
In an emergency, always think of your own safety first and stay calm. Once you notice smoke, fire or a burning smell  while driving, stop the engine immediately and stop driving. Get yourself and your passengers out from the car immediately. keep in mind that the presence of smoke does not always indicate a fire.

While explosions or fires are rare, there is a greater danger of inhaling toxic fumes from the burning of oil and synthetic data. Do not open the hood, as this will increase the air flow and can stoke the fire. It is generally not recommended to attempt to extinguish the fire yourself.

Call for help instead
If a fuse blows, get it checked because this could a sign of a more serious underlying problem.
If you refill the engine oil yourself, use a funnel and wipe up any spills. Spilled or leaking oil could start a fire under the hood. Make sure the cap placed securely. A missing lids can easily cause a fire.

Watch the temperature gauge while driving. If the engine is overheating, pull over and turn off the engine to let it cool down. Watch out for other potential warning signs such as oil or other fluid leaks under the car, cracked or loose wiring or hoses, or loud noises coming from the exhaust.

Put out the fire
You can try to put out the fire if you have  the necessary equipment, skills and knowledge to do it safely, and the fire is small. If you have a fire extinguisher in the car, make sure it is within reach of the driver's seat and that you know how to use it. Check the fire extinguisher regularly to ensure that you do not have one that is past its expiration date.

Grab the fire extinguisher when you leave the car. Tenth fire under the hood, the hood, but not completely open fully, like the sudden influx of air, a small fire into a larger one. Stand away from the car and spray through the gap, aiming at the base of the fire than the fire. If the fire is near the back of the car or close to the fuel tank, move away from the car quickly.
